Software Developers in India and Norway: Professional or National Cultures?
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, the authors investigate the professional practices of software developers from two different cultures—Norway and India. The authors examine if systematic differences exist between Norwegian and Indian software developers in their professional practice. Using Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, the authors expected to find cultural differences between the two groups of professionals. Building on a survey among software developers in the two countries, the authors have the following conclusions. Firstly, the main finding is that there are surprisingly few differences between the two groups, giving support to the view of a common professional culture. Secondly, the few differences that are observed cannot easily be explained by Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-3625-5.ch014

متن کاملResearch on Intercultural Teaching for RE - Proposal for a Multi Case Study
Intercultural aspects are important aspects in software engineering in teaching as well as in practice. In the requirements engineering context, these topics are not so well addressed by research, and if they are, then in the meaning of national cultures. We expect that, besides this, the diverse “professional cultures” of the participants in the requirements engineering process are an equally ...

By the term ‘professional end-user developers’ is meant professionals working in a highly technical, knowledge-rich domain who develop their own software in order to further their professional work. I have conducted empirical studies of such developers working in the domains of financial mathematics ([1], [2]), earth and space sciences ([2], [3]), and, currently, structural biology. These devel...
